Who Knew Taking Care of Yourself Made You Feel Better!?

One thing I hate most in this life is going to the doctor. I don’t like tests. I don’t like talking about my habits. I don’t like the little sheet dress. BUT! I do like finding out what’s wrong with me and how I can fix it. “What’s wrong with me?” you ask. Don’t answer that.
The last time I got bloodwork done, my doctor told me I was vitamin D-deficient. EXTREMELY deficient. I can’t quite remember the exact numbers, but I am so deficient that she recommended a heavy dosage supplement. I hate doing what I’m told, so I haven’t taken that supplement! Until now!
For the past week or so, I have been taking at least three vitamin D supplements a day. Not One a Day or Flintstone vitamins. These are straight-up vitamin D, and they are STRONG.
Since I started taking these, I’ve noticed my moods have significantly improved. I’m not as tired after work, and I have more ambition than ever. Wow. Who would have thought that taking a supplement would make me feel so good?! My doctor. That’s who. And if I listened to her earlier, I would’ve felt a lot better a lot earlier.
BUT…should’ve, could’ve, would’ve…Am I right? No, I am not right.
I should’ve started this routine a lot earlier. Speaking of routine…
My morning routine has a few more steps, and I’m not just talking about my choking down two vitamin D pills. For the past week, I have been starting my morning with a five-minute stretch. I wake up early, and while I shower and take my sweet time getting ready, I find myself scrolling on my phone or watching tv to waste time before leaving for work. So, I’ve decided to spend time stretching every morning, even if it’s only for five minutes.
One of my weird, unrealistic goals in life is to learn how to do the splits. I’ve always wanted to take photos doing the splits everywhere I go. Nothing is funnier than busting out a split. And yet, here I am, barely able to touch my toes. I was pretty embarrassed when I realized I couldn’t touch my toes. How can I split if I can’t touch toes?!
So, I am stretching every morning. Well, not just to do the splits. It also makes my shoulders and back feel loose before I sit at a computer all day. I have pretty bad tech-neck, and stretching my shoulders every morning makes me think about my posture for the rest of the day.
I pretty much spend all winter complaining about winter. This winter, I want to really work on making the most of things by taking care of myself. Maybe this is your sign to get a physical, find a supplement, or stretch for five minutes every day. Whatever you can do to take care of yourself. After all, this is simply a sign to take care of yourself (and listen to your doctor).
