Make Some Matcha!

After months of complaining about heart pains and stained teeth, I have made a pledge to drink less coffee. I love caffeine, so I can’t give that up, but I can adjust how I consume it. I have been a fan of matcha for years, but never thought to make it at home. I thought it was too complicated, but it turns out, it’s as easy as using a coffee machine.
So, I purchased a matcha set with a bowl, whisk, and the cheapest, most recommended Jade Leaf matcha powder and got to work.
There are so many health benefits to drinking matcha and while I’ve only been drinking it consistently for about a month, I feel like I am still reaping some benefits. The health benefits of matcha tea include being high in cancer-fighting antioxidants and containing fiber, vitamin C, chromium, magnesium, selenium, and zinc. Matcha can also help reduce blood sugar and cholesterol, boost metabolism, and improve mood.
I certainly feel like matcha has improved my mood and doesn’t give me the sluggish feeling coffee does when it wears off. Even the act of making my matcha drinks and trying new recipes gives me a feeling of excitement and satisfaction that using a coffee pot never could.
In honor of my love for matcha here are some recipes I have tried and loved.
Note: Each recipe explains to “prepare the matcha.” I prepare my matcha as follows: put 2 to 3 scoops of matcha powder (around 1 teaspoon) into the matcha mixing bowl. Add 2 oz of hot water to the bowl and whisk until mixed.
Friendly reminder that I am new to matcha, so be sure to choose the matcha powder you prefer, and feel free to change the recipes to suit your taste.
Make My Go-To Matcha
Prepare the matcha and set aside. Add ice and your choice of milk to a drinking glass. My choice of milk will always be vanilla almond milk. Pour mixed matcha into the drinking glass and admire the beautiful green layer on top of the milk. Mix your drink & enjoy!
*Make it a mega matcha by using 4 to 6 scoops of matcha powder with 4 oz of water.

Strawberry Milk Matcha Comes From Pink Cows
This is the same as my go-to matcha recipe, but we make it pink! Prepare the matcha and set it aside. Add ice and your choice of strawberry milk to a drinking glass. I typically use a very flavorful bottle of strawberry milk from the convenience section of the grocery store. The strawberry flavor is so intense that I usually add vanilla almond milk to balance it out.
Pour mixed matcha into the drinking glass and serve Wicked Realness.
Matcha Lemonades Makes Me Miss Summer
Pour lemonade powder into a glass with water and mix. Set aside while you prepare the matcha. Add ice to a drinking glass and pour in the lemonade then the liquid matcha. Please note, that while this is delicious, it really looks like swamp water, so I don’t recommend using a clear cup if drinking this in public.

Cinnamatcha Latte
Prepare your matcha with a dash of cinnamon in the bowl. Add cinnamon and your choice of milk to the drinking glass and mix. Add ice to the drinking glass then pour in the matcha. Sprinkle cinnamon on top for an extra dash of deliciousness.
Hot Matcha Tea
Prepare your matcha and set it aside. Add a dash of honey to your mug and squeeze in half a lemon. Pour in your hot water and mix. Pour in matcha, wait for it to cool, and enjoy. I recommend having this hot drink on a cold winter day (in a tinted cup because it looks like swamp water).
Immunimatcha Latte
Steep one to two immunity tea packets in a mug. Then prepare your matcha. This time, add your choice of milk to the bowl and mix or froth. Squeeze some lemon into the mug, pour in the matcha, and fight the flu.
