Ways to Make it Through the Winter

If you’re anything like me, the winter makes you miserable. It’s cold. It’s dark. It’s boring because you don’t want to do anything…because it’s cold and dark.

If you live in the northeast like me, it’s also long as hell. December went quickly since we were counting down to the holidays. The first half of January is exciting with the start of the new year. The second half of January…not so much.

Then there’s February. Although February is a short month, it’s still cold, and we have yet to save daylight. We suffer through a few weeks of March before we get to celebrate Spring on the 20th

That being said, we need to find some ways to make it through the winter without losing our minds! Here’s some of the stuff I’m planning to do:

  1. Read Some Books!

    1. I typically don’t have time (or the willpower) to read during the week, but I spend every Saturday and Sunday morning curled up with a good book. I forced myself to finish Cujo by Stephen King, which I have been putting off for months. Not because it was bad, but because I was lazy and didn’t feel like it. Force yourself to feel like it! Because once you do, you feel great!

  2. Get a Haircut (or a new product)

    1. Skincare, haircare, haircut, nailcare, literally anything that makes you feel brand new. I recently got a haircut after pushing it off for weeks (are you seeing a pattern?), and I felt like a snake shedding skin. Afterward, I felt lighter (and hotter). I also purchased a new setting powder. CoverGirl from CVS, nothing expensive, but it has been making me feel beautiful (despite the breakouts I got from eating holiday junk).

  3. Make At-Home Delicious Drinks

    1. I won’t lie to you. I’ve been keeping it very simple. I started putting sugar-free vanilla syrup in my coffees and I have had no reason to purchase coffee out in months. I still buy coffee, but that’s because I love going to coffee shops. I’ve also made more hot chocolates this year than I have in the past five winters combined. A hot cocoa on a Sunday afternoon makes winter warm and cozy.

  4. Listen to Records over Spotify

    1. I noticed a few months back that when I listen to music on Spotify while I’m getting ready or cleaning, I spend more time switching songs or playlists than getting ready or cleaning. That’s why I have been listening to records instead. I pick one and force myself to get ready, clean, or write while I listen to it in its entirety. That way, I am sitting down and focusing on what I need to do while listening to music without disruption.

  5. Color, Wordsearch, Scrapbook, Create Anything in a Cute Little Book

    1. I am a victim of the double screen. I love scrolling TikToks while watching TV. Simply because I don’t know what else to do with my hands when my mind doesn’t want to fully pay attention to a show or movie. Coloring can get boring for me, so I started to do wordsearches to destroy my urge to double-screen. I’ve also recently discovered my favorite hobby: scrapbooking. I scrapbook everything. And I mean everything. I have multiple scrapbooks with multiple different things. I have a typical junk journal filled with whatever I want to put in it. I have a vision journal filled with all of my manifestations. I have multiple photo albums. And last, but certainly not least, I have my outfit journal. A scrapbook filled with mirror selfies and hot pictures of me in my most fabulous outfits. Because in 50 years, I want to remember what I looked like when I was young and hot. Not at an event, but just going to work on a random Wednesday.

We will make it through this cold, dark winter. One day at a time. Let me know what you’re doing to make it through the winter!
